Supplements are tricky because they only help if you use them at the right time and for the right reasons. They need to be tailored to your use case. Omega 3s, however, are essential fatty-acids for the body - similar to micro and macro nutrients. EPA in particular is a type of omega 3 that's been proven to improve a variety of health aspects.
This includes metabolism, cardiovascular health, brain health, focus performance, overall moods and more. The data on depression is also interesting. This study of 60 people showed that EPAs are equally effective as antidepressants like Prozac at decreasing depression. That's insane.
How and how much to get?
You need 1-3g of EPA per day. (1000-3000 mg).
Fish oil is the best source and is available in capsules or liquid form. I prefer the capsules because they're more convenient. Just check online or go to a pharmacy to find them. Make sure to check the labels for EPA quantities. You need at least 1000 mg of EPA per 1 or 2 capsules.
You can get some EPAs through grass-fed meat, fish, chia seeds, etc.. check online for all the sources. But the capsules are already convenient, cheap, and cover all your needs. Andrew says that if you want to get the benefits of all those multivitamins, probiotics, and performance-enhancers, and don't want to combine a bunch of ingredients, just get EPAs.
