How to Optimize Your Rest Periods During Workouts
This tip helps you get more output in your workouts. It works for gym or HIIT /endurance workouts.
Huberman and Galpin talked about the ideal way to spend your rest period. Galpin said:
“Every single one of my athletes is going to go back, sit in the stool, and they're going to immediately start a breathing routine. A very intentional one. Even a golfer, when he hits his ball and he’s moving to the next one, he’s going to go into our breathing strategy.”
Whether you’re running, squatting, or doing sports training. Hard exercise ramps up adrenaline, heart rate, and temperature. If these get too high, your performance starts to diminish.
So you should use rest periods wisely. They’ll lower your adrenaline so you can be fresh for the next set and get better output within the same workout.
So , let’s keep it simple. At the end of your sets, do a few physiological sighs. Like, right after you complete your last rep or start your rest timer. Put down the weights and start breathing. Immediately.
If you’re an endurance-type athlete, do the same thing after each round or interval. Do a double inhale then exhale.
Try to imagine yourself in the middle of a workout right now. So see yourself at your typical workout location and doing a challenging set. As you’re finishing your set, see yourself ending it breathing exercise.
This exercise helps you sustain and maybe increase your output throughout the workout. Free gains!
As soon as you finish a set, start doing a few physiological sighs.
You can do it.
Hope you have an awesome day!
