Why you shouldn't use social media in the morning
Time on social media first thing in the morning is probably the most poisonous activity that I could take part in.
Hey, weird tool today. But very helpful. Try not to just read it, but do it.
Using social media in the morning throws you off. Here’s why.
In the second half of sleep, your brain is sorting out emotional connections. It’s processing your feelings. So if you immediately follow that with a rich sensory experience of scrolling stuff, you disturb the processing. And your emotions go out of place. It’s one of the main reasons you get that morning agitation.
“It’s like you're bringing a knife to a gunfight if you think you can use your self-control to keep your use of Instagram to say 10 minutes. These companies spend billions of dollars to grab and keep your attention”. - Tim Ferriss
Your 5 minutes turn into 45 minutes really fast. So when it’s time to get up, you’re late, you’re overwhelmed, and you didn’t spend your time wisely. I mean, 45 minutes! That’s as long as a workout.
So . In simple terms, you shouldn’t use social media/phone in the morning.
To take this home, think of this
Which social media apps do you open in the morning?
think of answer before moving to next one…— — —
On a scale of 1-10, how much value do you get when you open them?
think of answer before moving to next one…— — —
Okay. So you get the idea. Social media isn’t helping you a ton.
So, , tomorrow morning don’t open social media as soon as you wake up. When you open your device, take a moment of self-awareness and say “Okay, I won’t do this”.
Note: You can do a lot of other things. Ideas: working out, reading a book, spending time with your family, or working/learning about things you’re passionate about.
These boost your mental energy and optimism for the morning. So
Don’t use social media in the morning.
And if that’s right now, you know what to do ;)
Yup, no doomscrolling today.
