Is music good for you?
Can music make you healthier?
In the latest episode, Huberman did a deep dive into how music affects your brain and body. It’s pretty cool. He went to the point of saying “your body is music”. Indeed, we can recognize musical patterns since we are 3 months old (before being to talk).
Regardless of the genre, all of us listen to music. Whether if it’s for pleasure, work, fun, or reminiscing over memories.
Turns out, music has some health benefits. They did a meta-analysis on it. And of course, Huberman made it a ‘protocol’ :) Here it goes:
Andrew: It feels almost inappropriate to call it a protocol because protocol sounds kind of rigid like you're imposing that on yourself. But if you need an excuse to listen to your favorite music for 10 to 30 minutes per day and just attending to that music not while doing anything else.
It's been shown to increase heart rate variability around the clock which we know is beneficial for your mental and physical health.
Music for 10 to 30 minutes a day improves HRV and a few other health metrics. If you’re wondering: how can music affect cardiovascular health? We’ll get into that next time. For now, try to get some music.
Note, in the studies, subjects exclusively listened to music. So it wasn’t in the background. No, you sit and listen without multitasking. It’s not about your thoughts. It’s about how your brain reacts to the beats, rhythms, and melodies. These mechanisms are healthy for you.
So . This is spectacular tool for your health. It’s fun, easy, and you can do it anywhere.
Like, why not start playing some right now? if not, then maybe on your way back home. It’s healthier than all the other stuff.
Action for you : Open your music app and start playing some music!
Here’s Spotify and YouTube music for easier access.
Come on, you’ll enjoy it.
Bye!
