How to Increase Testosterone
To clarify, testosterone is a sex hormone that's present in both males & females. It influences sex... but with the right ratios, you can leverage it for better mental, physical & sports performance. Here's how it works:
Our amygdala sets our thresholds for anxiety and what we consider scary or threatening. Testosterone is secreted to the amygdala and changes the threshold for stress. So I've said before that testosterone has this incredible effect of making effort feel good, but what I was really referring to is that testosterone lowers stress and anxiety. ~ AH
So it's a hormone that helps you feel more comfortable with challenges because you're less stressed. Hence, you feel more confident. Think of what happens right after a hard workout or achieving goals. You feel like you can take on the world.
So indirectly it makes you mentally strong, highly motivated, and hence increases your likelihood of success. There's a cool twist. You can increase your baseline level of testosterone from one thing and that increase in toughness carries on to other activities.
And the best way to get that is with: [healthy] competition. Things like sports, business, games, finding love. Anything that makes you feel like you are going up against something or someone.
So yes, it's healthy for both males and females to engage in competition. And how you do that is entirely up to you. Try this as a guiding question:
What's something you can compete at this week?
It could be to win at basketball, get higher grades, or perform better than a co-worker. Take a minute to think of something that works for you.
It sounds weird... but at that moment, you'll feel excited, kinda guilty, and have a strong desire to win.
Use competition to increase confidence and testosterone.
Andrew explains this and how it relates to other health/sexual measures in this part of episode #15 called "how to optimize testosterone & estrogen".
