How To Improve Memory (4/5)

It is not the emotion. It is the neurochemical state that you go into as a consequence of the emotion.

, if you read a paragraph, and it doesn’t give you emotion, you won’t remember it.

But if you listen to a speech, and the speaker makes you feel something, you’ll always remember it.

Maybe you had this when you first listened to Huberman. You felt like he’s different from other health creators out there. Or he sparked your curiosity about the human brain and body. Why? Emotion.

It’s why we remember those big events in our lives. The parties, the gatherings, the intimate times, and the scary times. But it also helps when you want to remember hard material.

They did an experiment. 2 groups. One read emotionally driven text. The other read bland text. Group 2 retained 50% more of the info. Crazy.

So , if you’re trying to learn a subject/skill or you want to lock down an idea in your head once and for all. Leverage emotion. Here’s how.

When there’s something you want to remember. Ex: a presentation you’ll only see once, a course lecture, or a beautiful sunset.

Try to change how you feel. Focus less on the actual details and more on your emotions. So make yourself happy, curious, or maybe even sad. Change your inner talk.

And as you start feeling it. Your brain recognizes the boost of neurochemicals dopamine, adrenaline, and serotonin. This stamps memories stronger than anything else.

Infuse your learning (and experiences) with strong emotions. And you’ll be much better at retaining them.

Really hope this makes sense. p.s. don’t forget to do aerobic training
