The Fastest Way To Improve Your Diet
The bottom line is that highly processed foods are just bad for you. They disrupt the lining of your gut in a way, proper satiety signals and they contain a bunch of things that disrupt your hormonal systems and neural systems even after the diet is done. ~ AH
Processed foods like oils, sugar, chips, etc. take a healthy thing (like an apple) and process it so the good nutrients are gone (ex. fiber). You get a ton of calories without the essential nutrients. Your gut makes you feel agitated, wants to continue eating, and robs your energy levels.
To be clear, no they don't kill you. You don't need to avoid every delicious treat for the rest of your life. In fact, you only need some minor tweaks to get the 80/20 of a better diet.
The main point isn't for you to live till you're 180 years old. It's to live better with your time here. And it's easier than you think:
When you eat something healthy, you'll feel good at a biological level. You kinda get a dopamine push. As time passes, you automatically go for that healthier option and sustain a big improvement in your mood, focus, and energy levels. It all starts with one step.
Action for the day:
When you find yourself reaching out to get a processed food, substitute it with a healthy snack you like. So things like: apples, carrots, steak, nuts, rice, your favorite salad, etc.
Anything that's available around you that you don't mind eating.
Again, this doesn't mean you should eliminate croissants. (OG listeners know what I'm saying)
You still benefit, though, from eating it 6 days of the week instead of 7. For you, skip whatever your version of the croissant is ex. bagel, biscuits, fries, etc. It's just for a day. You can do it!
Here's a clip of Andrew explaining this mechanism.
