The Easiest Way to Accelerate Learning
In episode 6, Andrew discusses neuroplasticity. It's the way your brain changes. It's basically how you learn. There are many ways to improve learning (like nsdr, stress, max repetitions) that require a lot of effort. This tool, however, is effortless.
Letting the mind drift, where it's not organized in thought, after a period of very deliberate focused effort is the best way to accelerate learning and depth of learning. And there are good scientific data to support these sorts of things, including the Cell Reports - AH
So simple! Now keep in mind, this means that when you're done with a learning bout, don't just jump into the next thing. Avoid working, texting, and even listening to a podcast. In fact, the best way to use this is to get "self-generated optic flow".
It's basically when you move forward and see objects going by. For example, when you're walking, your eyes can see buildings and vehicles pass by, especially at the lateral sides of your eyes. This helps calm your nervous system down and process what you just learned. Similar to what sleep and NSDR do.
In simple terms, Your brain needs to process information. And the best way for that is to take an active break after the learning bout. It has to be outdoors. You should actually be moving (not driving a car). So, ideally you walk, jog, or cycle.
Implementation steps:
Think of something you want to learn today/tomorrow - math, basketball, speaking, whatever.
When you're done with it, instead of engaging in other activities, just "move on" with a simple walk outdoors.
Don't think about anything in particular for 5-10 minutes.
It's that easy. Just let the mind drift.
Acc. to the studies, you'll learn a ton faster. Andrew discusses this and other learning-optimizing tools in this episode.
