Day 9 To Better Sleep: How To Get Proper Sleep Respiration
Did you ever wake up feeling short of breath, felt like you had to drink water fast, and felt your throat was full of mucus? Let's see why and how to fix it.
For those of you that are waking up breathing heavily through your mouth, or your partner is telling you snore, or you're that person on the plane with your mouth hanging open and drooling. Then you are mouth breathing... terrible, terrible, terrible - AH
In simple terms, you need to breathe well during sleep. Mouth breathing gives you half the oxygen you need, a ton of snoring, and a dried throat when you wake up. So, it messes up your sleep and your performance.
You need to learn how to nose breathe during sleep. If you have an extreme condition like sleep apnea, then talk to your doctor. Otherwise, these tips are enough:
Practice nasal breathing in the minutes leading up to sleep. Do some inhales and deep exhales while lying in bed. They put you in the rhythm and keep you focused on breathing.
Use mouth tape. You can find these online. Put the strip on before bed. Don't worry about not being able to breathe. The tape gets off when you need to gasp for air.
Both of these can transition you from mouth breathing to nose breathing pretty fast. You improve sleep, daytime feelings of wakefulness, focus, mood, and cardiovascular health.
One last thing, be aware of your sleep position. Some positions like stomach sleeping block good breathing pathways. Stay on your back or side. You can surround yourself with pillows to stay still.
This is fantastic if you take a while to fall asleep. Instead of spending 60 minutes jumping from side to side and reconsidering your role on this earth, you only spend 10 :) Not bad!
Anyway, get used to nose breathing. You can breathe manually or get a mouth tape pack. It costs like $5 and is better than all the sleep supplements. Some people say it solved all their sleep issues.
Choose what you prefer. Just make sure you do it today/tomorrow to actually get the benefits.
You can do Reader! Great job.
