What to do when you can’t focus
You know when you need to work but your brain is ‘all over the place’. You get a snack, you check your messages, and you take like 5 walks. You try everything to bring your brain to focus on the work.
Well, with Huberman’s tools, you can solve that. There are many methods. But this is what I found most effective.
You only need 2 tools to bring back your focus. 1. A duration and 2. visual focus.
For 1, use ultradian rhythms. These are the 60 to 90-minute cycles your body goes through. Within them, your focus naturally rises. You can enter these at will. But you need to know where to start. So set a clear objective first. Choose the thing you want to focus on.
Then there’s a trick to help your brain eliminate all the mental distractions. And that’s to limit what you hear/see. So for example, you can put on headphones. to limit what you hear. Or, sit in a closed space where your eyes can’t put divert mental energy to irrelevant stuff. You could also put your hands at the side of your eyes.

if Huberman was willing to look silly for us to get the point, you gotta be willing to try it!
This narrows your attention to the one thing you need to do. It eliminates everything else your brain is thinking about. And that’s exactly what you need.
So , next time you feel the need to focus. Try it.
Cup your eyes to your workspace
For the first 60 seconds of cupping, choose one thing to do. (one thing)
Start working. Try to time it to 30-60 minutes to get an ultradian cycle. Your focus will slowly ramp up as you go through the cycle
You may want to revisit the steps when you feel an unfocused state this week. It’s okay, this email is in your inbox. Feel free to revisit it.
Hope you have a wonderful, productive day. And if you’re not productive right now, you know what to do :) re-read and implement the 3 steps.
