You Can Get Better At Anything
Intro To Developing A Growth Mindset
A mindset does many things but it mainly organizes information and specific actions in a way that allows us to make certain choices... and often those narratives are only visible to us if we think about them
, how's your mindset? do you push yourself or hold yourself back?
See, Carol Dweck, did a ton of research on mindsets. She proved that your mindset has a huge influence on how motivated you are, how likely you are to succeed, and how good you feel in the process. Let's get into it.
A fixed mindset is when you think everything is pre-determined. That you're inherently not good at a skill and never can be.
A growth mindset is when you believe you can improve at anything with time and effort.
And when it comes to facing challenges, which we all do. A growth mindset is the only way. Instead of seeing yourself as a failure, you see the skill as something external you can better at. And you get excited about the learning process.
The studies also showed that this mentality makes it less likely you quit and doubles the likelihood you hit your goals. And who doesn't want that?
So , you might suck at a skill now. But with time, you can get better at it.
For today, whenever you encounter a limiting belief like: "I'll never look fit, I'm just not lucky. I'm bad at socializing. I can't be happy"
Stop yourself. Challenge that belief. It's the fixed mindset holding you back.
You are not bad at those things. They're a skill outside of you. Yes, they need time and effort. But you can get them
And that's the essence of a growth mindset.
Believe that you can improve in the skills you’re working on.
This week we'll dive into Huberman's latest mindset episode. We'll take you from thinking you suck at things to improving and taking the right actions. But first, make sure you believe you can change ;). Enjoy your week.
