How To Amplify Your Performance
They did a study. They measured people's cortisol and adrenaline (stress molecules) and had them do a cognitive task. The study found that: "there was a greater than doubling of concentration and performance in the stress group."
When you get stressed, your brain literally narrows its vision and doesn't pay attention to useless stuff like background noises, objects around you, and reddit notifications. So, you narrow your focus to the most important things.
That makes sense. If you're playing in the NBA finals, you'll feel stress. And this stress helps you focus and perform better than you usually do.
So if you're struggling to find focus these days or your work output isn't great. This tool is for you.
Action for the day
When you feel your performance sucks and you need to rest, switch it up. Instead of calming yourself down, do something that agitates you. You can give yourself a time limit, get bothered by your limitations, or imagine receiving negative feedback. All these push you to work harder.
It sounds harsh, but it works. So just try it for a day. If you do like it, which you will :), it will double your work output and help you overcome any roadblocks you face.
Deliberately pressure yourself to do better in your next task.
You can do it! Here's the clip from the podcast.
